Thai Tourism Expected to Top 21 Million in 2012Thailand News (english) | April 19, 2012
“Miracle Year of Amazing Thailand” kicked off this weekend at Bangkok’s Impact Arena. The latest tourism promotion campaign by the Tourism Authority of Thailand (TAT) is expected to lure some 2.2 million foreigners this year alone, boosting the total number of visitors to more than 21 million.
The new campaign will be aimed primarily at Asian markets, inasmuch as Europe and America remain in the throes of economic woes.
Suraphon Svetasreni, TAT governor, launched the promotion at Impact’s Muang Thong Thani Hall 2 with the ‘7 Miracles of Thailand’ exhibition, which commemorates the three special royal occasions that make up the Miracle Year: His Majesty the King’s 84th Birthday, Her Majesty the Queen’s 80th Birthday, and His Royal Highness Crown Prince Maha Vajiralongkorn’s 60th Birthday.
TAT also plans to encourage domestic travel among Thais throughout 2012. The first such promotion highlights the top five places in Thailand to celebrate Songkran in each region.
